Game On! Weekly Challenge Membership Frequently Asked Questions
The Game On! Weekly Dog Training Challenge is for anyone that owns a dog who wants a fun, effective training approach. A perfect introduction to games-based training or a brilliant way to reinvigorate your training and make progress towards your goals, the teaching is accessible to everyone, and designed for dogs of all breeds, sizes, ages and training histories. The weekly challenge format is designed to keep you motivated, make sure your training has variety and real-life purpose, and avoid the overwhelm that can kick in when you’re not sure where to start.
Each week’s challenge consists of 3-4 video lessons, which are a combination of practical games you can play with your dog, coaching lessons and written resources. Aim to work through all the videos each week before the challenge disappears and a new set of lessons appears. Keep in mind that training should never be a long time, just a fun time. Training sessions should be 2-3 minutes long, followed by a break, and intermittent throughout the day - whatever your lifestyle allows.
No prior training is required and it's also okay if you have several layers of training under your belt. Skilling up your knowledge is never a bad thing! If you’re brand new to games-based training you will find our teaching easy to access and our games a great way to boost your relationship with your dog while working on building skills that will address real-life training challenges.
Each week’s brand new lessons introduce fresh games, teaching and goals to keep your training sessions engaging and dynamic. Each challenge targets specific skills or behaviours, allowing you to systematically improve your dog’s skills over time, building a solid foundation for long-term success. Previous weekly challenges have focused on skills and concepts including recall, off-leash freedom, dog-dog interactions and reactivity.
Think of your dog’s brain as a series of building blocks, each of which represents a different concept. It can help to think of concepts in terms of the skills your dog most needs to grow - as well as the skills they really excel at. These concepts include disengagement (not everything is my business!), proximity (I love to hang out with my owner), calmness (chilling out is a great deal), optimism (novelty is cool) and self control (I can control myself around exciting distractions). The idea behind games-based training is that you focus on strengthening these overarching concepts, rather than teaching your dog situation-specific behaviours. As you and your dog play the weekly games you should see measurable progress in their behaviour. While each week’s challenge will have a particular training focus, the more games you play, the more you’ll see the results translating to real life as you build and strengthen those skills and concepts. Just remember that if your dog is still practising naughty behaviours your progress could be impacted. Implement management strategies while you engage your dog in games for optimal results!
Our weekly challenge will give you a brilliant sneak peek into the full library of training games and teaching available inside Games Club, our monthly membership subscription, while also giving you a very specific training focus each week. It’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the fun and amazing games-based training content available to you. Like what you discover? You’ll have the opportunity to level up your membership at any point.
Each weekly challenge is available for 7 days, after which the content disappears and is replaced with a new set of games and lessons. You will continue to have access to a new weekly challenge every week for as long as you remain an active member of our Game On! Weekly Dog Training Challenge.
You will access the weekly challenge in a dedicated members-only space within our private community space on a platform called Circle. This is free and is part of your membership. This is where the video content will be hosted, and where you will be able to ask questions, connect with other weekly challenge members and get support.
